The work "Room for Fifty" explores what it means to exist by randomly replacing 50 standees in a virtual space with images of participants. Because an absolute objective world does not exist to us, the work personifies the space and explores the connection between perception and existence through the perspective of the space itself. Participants truly exist in the artwork's subjective "world" only when they are recorded and preserved in its memory. Initially, its memory holds only the presence of the author (me), so the standees only bear my appearance. As more people engage with the artwork, these individuals are added to its "memory" and "attention." Because attention is limited, over time, those who initially "existed" in the work are overwritten by people who are newly added, thereby "disappearing."
